i know this is not converting into a computer-blog but i hope to save some others some research time by posting this.
tried to connect my (old) canonscan lide 30 to a friend’s new mac powerbook today. – it took some time. the installer downloaded from the official canon site does not even ‘know’ where to install the necessary plug-in so i had to figure out it goes into the /’plug-ins’/'import/export’ folder just to then get a warning message that photoshop will not recognize the file format.
the solution has the debatable name ‘rosetta‘, an apple mode that allows to run non-intel (or non-universal) files on an intel-mac, you find as a tiny check-mark it in the ‘properties’ window if you ctrl-click the photoshop icon. once you are done with scanning you can re-run photoshop without ‘rosetta’ if you feel that ‘rosetta’ influences your work performance…
shame on you canon, because in other words that means canon did not even program an intel-based driver.
