a collaboration between the new york city department of transportation with safe streets fund
and american artist john morse, ‘curbside haiku‘ brings bright graphics and playful poetry
to the street signs of new york, in an initiative designed to promote road safety.
144 signs covering 12 different designs have been placed in areas near cultural centers and schools,
where a high percentage of accidents take place. in some locations, the signs feature only graphics,
with the haikus embedded in a QR code. in others, signs are hung in pairs featuring both image and text.
